Nikki says 'the simple fact that you can get a belly laugh from a baby with a game of peekaboo is compelling evidence that we have a profound talent for delight.'

Described as - "a product of the suburbs but has more in common philosophically with Mose Allison, Tom Lehrer, Dan Hicks or even Frank Zappa. Classically trained originally, Nikki has a guitar chops that are a cross between Barney Kessel and Paul Simon, with a bit of Joni Mitchell thrown in. Her solo CDs are full of delicious licks and subtle and sly digs at a culture of having and getting more, of not caring whose little sand castle goes down in the wash of your jet ski." from:www.bmff.org.au

2010 - Nikki's tasty new CD-EP

Take Your Clothes Off Take Your Clothes Off
CD-EP

(rel. 2010)

Nikki's revealing 'climate change' story in all it's naked glory.

'if you can't stand the heat,
take your clothes off...'
This release – Ms. Madden serves up a bunch of gravity defying percussion/bass grooves, freeing up her open space acoustic guitar vocab and voice to marry the expressive and emotional territory...
Recorded at The Camp, Blue Mountains, Australia. 2010.

Track 1. - 'Take Your Clothes Off'
warm, global latin feel, acoustic guitar & voice w/ latin perc., bass, keys - on climate change and the bleedin' obvious - 'when you're sitting in the dark because you can't afford te CO2, let your love light shine - that'll have to do...'

Track 2. - 'Here With You'
'dont want luxury, that's not enough for me.' cool latin energy, acoustic guitar & voice w/ latin perc., bass, keys.

Track 3. - 'Beautiful Man'
16 bar blues, acoustic guitar & voice, fretless bass, brushkit drums, naturally swanky - on 'blokes' ( the 16 bar man)
'fortunately, no women or children were harmed'

country blues 2 step - acoustic guitar & voice, military bass drum, brushkit drums, bass – the song of the Tshirt, baby boomers lament.

Next of

Skin - CD Next of Skin
(rel. 2001)

'Next of Skin' begins with the title track - a bluesy, minor key take on relationships and the Law - Nikki says "9 parts love song, 1 part voter disaffection". In 'Summer Rain', the 'gene pool's staying open late again' - voyeuristic intimacy from fingerstyle guitar against a persistent pedal.

The tempo lifts with some seriously dysfunctional picking in 'The Damned Machine', 'Such a beautiful man' and 'The 8th Day' - a straight 8, ska driven fingerstyle post-creationist mini-epic which fails to discover if belief systems are a health hazard beyond their 'use-by' date.

Nikki finally goes the chill with lunch at the zoo in 'South of the Heart' - a loopy two-chord disposable on the populate and perish theme, and takes the 'big decisions with a little extra chilli on the side' in the closing 'Fascinating Stranger'.

Faced with the the 'nowhere to hide' intimacy of an elemental form like fingerstyle acoustic guitar and voice, the characters in Nikki's songs emerge surprised and naked in the curious light of 20/20 hindsight.

Seven Songs - live

(rel. 1999)

'Light on finesse, long on verve, these performances were recorded at the Clarendon Cabaret Room, Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains, before an audience of 100 or so drunks, divorcees, hippies, mortgage slaves and other gentle folk, mid 1998, and presented to Nikki as a fait accompli live-CD by the visionary venue owner.

After token reassurance as to the technical merit of the performances, Nikki agreed to release the recordings because she (not very) secretly, really likes the music.'
